After the jump, pix from Casey's birthday party last weekend. It had a gallery opening theme, at her insistence --- each guest had to bring a work of art they'd made to put on the wall, and the cake was decorated to look like a Jackson Pollock canvas in progress. (Paint by Casey, Pollock by her dad.)

The second shot is of Elvis' new favorite pastime --- she puts a purse in the crook of her elbow, grabs her keys, and readies herself to go to work. Before she heads for the door, she makes the rounds of the room to get goodbye kisses from everyone.

And yeah, the cake was made out of cupcakes. It's the latest thing.

It might be the museum geek talking, but that's the BEST BIRTHDAY THEME EVER. Casey's dress is gorgeous, and that's the most expressive pipecleaner I've ever seen. I hope she had a great birthday.

Maeve did that going-to-work roleplay thing too, complete with handbag and circuits of the room to get goodbye kisses.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, and she did.

And yeah, that particular packet of pipe cleaners has served us well.

I concur with [info]baroquestar: Love the theme, REALLY love the dress, think Elvis is a comic genius, and I really REALLY want one of those cupcakes.

Ack! (Apparently, I am channeling Cahty-of-the-comic-strip-"Cathy"). Great pictures! And the party theme is absolutely brilliant. (Have you seen the documentary Who the [Bleep] is Jackson Pollock?? It's worth a look!).

Stuart loves to play with one of my old handbags. And I can't blame him: it's really cute! Unfortunately, the stitching didn't hold up exactly as well as I'd (naïvely, considering I procured the purse for $4 from a clearance rack) hoped.

The party was brilliant even for the couple of attendees without kids! And thanks for the compliment about the photos.....I am the photograppher and come at a pretty reasonable price ;)

That is genius! Can I rip that idea off for my daughter's next birthday..? Love the idea of children getting to participate as guests by bringing their art work along to be discussed and appreciated.. and that cake, man oh man, are you clever!!

I used too many exclamation points for this comment but I blame your cake, it is overwhelmingly clever.

The art opening theme was all Casey's idea --- originally she was going to get up and give a speech, but on the day her innate disinclination to perform won out.

The cake, though, was my idea. Thanks.
