The sweet innocence of youth.
A couple of evenings ago, Casey and I went out to the supermarket before dinner. As we were on our way out, she told me she wanted to stop into the playground at her school, because she and two friends had made a date to dig for mermaids there that night.

Over the course of the ensuing conversation, it came out that one of her friends had seen mermaids in the playground the previous day, and that she'd seen a shadow of a mermaid, and that they were all planning to dig through the asphalt to find the mermaids.

When I asked why they needed to dig to find the mermaids, she said they were living in holes under the ground. And, oh yeah, they weren't just looking for mermaids. They were also looking for mermaid skulls. And the shadow? Turns out it was less a shadow than a pool of dried mermaid blood.

And the juxtaposition of the second and third paragraphs are why Roald Dahl will always be a favorite writer of children.

Well there is that, although I was more wondering how our favourite zombie writer had managed to sneak his mindset into the Brooklynite household.

Ah, she's coming along nicely. No surprise there.

Well, you did let her watch the Sopranos when she was an infant. This is where that kind of reckless behavior leads.

[info]agumer looked up at my chuckles, so I read your post to him and he replied, "Awesome."

Fine kid you got there.
